Now we have all heard rhetoric coming from both sides of the political spectrum. Both sides say “If you are not with me you’re against me!” Well, in some instances, that is true, but for the most part it is not, that is until you get to the extreme of either side. Of course, you can’t forget that there is a middle that leans which ever way agrees with their thoughts the most.

But in politics, there is another side to the story, and that is the celebrity endorsements. Now mind you, most people watch movies, TV shows or listen to the music you like the best, but does that translate into a celebrity knowing more than the average person when it comes to politics?

On one hand politicians hang out with celebrities because of their following, and because the celebrities have money and the politicians want their money. Just like everything else, a politician will put on a show for a celebrity and pretend that they listen to them just for their endorsement.

The good news is, there are some very smart celebrities out there as well, and two come to mind, Kurt Russell and Carrie Underwood. Both in recent weeks have done interviews where the reporters tried to corner them into a political discussion. Both of them wisely stated that they believed in not pushing what they believed on others and that voting is a private thing that should not be flaunted.

Now that doesn’t mean they can’t say what they believe, after all, in America, you can say what is on your mind. The problem is, that often times when you say what is on your mind, your job is affected by what you say and those who believe differently than you, will hold it against you.

Kurt Russell explained how he felt about the second amendment on two occasions, once on “The View” and once in an audio interview. The audio interview turned a bit ugly because the reporter began using words like “gun nuts” and other colorful language about those of us that love our guns and the right to “keep and bear arms.” After a few minutes, Mr. Russell walked out on the interview because he knew that the reporter had an agenda.

Carrie Underwood was ambushed during a red carpet event that had nothing to do with politics and was asked questions about her feelings on today’s politics. She was smart and said that she was not there to talk about politics.

Both of these examples are the ways that most of us should be. That doesn’t mean that you have to not talk about politics at all, but once it becomes a shouting match it is time to walk away and let your vote count!

I know, many of you who know me, knows I get into quite a few political discussions that end up in an argument, and yes, I am guilty. But many times I cut off the discussion because it is no use arguing with people who are not there to listen to me.

Keep in mind, when I speak of celebrities, I am not speaking about people like Michael Moore, who really is only out there making movies to fit his agenda, and he is really not a celebrity at all.

 The same goes for people like Piers Morgan, who is not even an American, who thinks he can inject his opinion into our lives and expects people to listen to him. Do they have followers that hang on every word they say? Yes. Are they always correct? No, not by a long shot. But they are the squeaky wheel and people hear them, it doesn’t make them right about what they say! The fact that he is not American means he has absolutely no say at all about what we do in our country!

So the moral of the story is, talk about politics, talk about what your believe in, but know when it is no use and walk away. Then go to the polls and let your vote count. It is not worth the stress and it is not worth seeing who can yell the loudest.

One of my favorite pastimes is to post something I believe in, exaggerate it a little, and watch those who don’t believe in the same thing keep yelling to try and get your attention.
